- When new, paint over new finish with a clear heat resistant outdoor sealer.
- Touch up rust as it crops up with a rust resistant outdoor paint. Lightly sand, then paint and seal.
- Don't over fire the unit as the excess heat weakens the paint's ability to resist rust.
- Use only seasoned cord wood. Cheap wood and wax fireplace logs "over fire" and encourage corrosion.
- Keep the unit covered.
